why these themes?

This year has shown us just how important it is to have policies that really make a difference when we need them most. This year, I have been at the forefront of fighting for the academic policies I believe we deserve. As your VP Education, I will continue my work on Covid-19 policies as well as making sure that all policies are as protective and robust as they can be, every year.

Through my activism and work this year, I have seen just how much difference a student can make when they decide to speak up about issues that matter to them. However, to be able to foster change, students need to be listened to by those who have the power to make these differences. As your VP Education, I promise to use my voice for your progress and do everything in my power to amplify the voices of the students themselves. I will use my experience this year and my position next year in high level meetings to make the changes that you want to see.

There has rightly been a huge focus on mental health this year. However, mental health is not only something that happens outside of lecture theatres. It is influenced by - and impacts on - our academic lives too. Ensuring fair outcomes and high-quality, supportive teaching is at the core of our wellbeing and I believe my experience from this year makes me best placed to deliver on this.

These three themes summarise the principles that I stand for and strongly believe are the most pressing issues that the student body is facing at this time.

What is the APAC?

APAC stands for Assessment, Progression and Awarding Committees

They basically function as an exam board functions, determining what policies can or cannot be implemented regarding assessment criteria and methods.

This includes creating algorithms such as the 'no-detriment' policy we saw in March 2020 and the degree classification boundaries.

What is the SSLC?

SSLC stands for Student Staff Liaison Committee.

This is where your subject reps and COs share your feedback with staff from the Academic Representation department in order to improve your academic experience..
